From October 2019 to December 2019, I was the Queens Council on the Arts ArtPort Artist in Residence at the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. I produced a project called “Postcards from Queens.”
For “Postcards,” I made intricate ink and marker drawings of landscapes in Queens, both famous and overlooked. The drawings were printed as postcards, and offered to airport visitors. The postcards were labeled with the source of their imagery, offering insight into different areas of Queens.
Ultimately, my goal was to encourage visitors to see the potential for beauty in the everyday, as well as to present a sense of the vastness and historical richness of the borough that they are flying through. It also led to a lot of interesting random conversations about places, familiar and not, that people had personal connections to.
You can see the full set of postcards images on my Etsy page. I am also selling them as giclée (high-quality ink jet) prints. Here are a few examples.
Artport is a program of the Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) in collaboration with the Port Authority New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), LaGuardia Airport.
