In what will undoubtedly be my most viewed public work, I created a series of illustrations for the restrooms in JFK Terminal 8, commissioned by RCGA Architects in Queens, NY. The illustrations were printed on ceramic tile, fabricated by Fiandre Italian Tile. They are installed in many bathrooms in the terminal, used by American Airlines, British Airways, and Iberia. I was given a palette and a basic style to work with. Here are some images from the grand opening of the renovated terminal in December 2022. There are 7 designs total—not all are pictured here.
The mural that I’m standing next to (below) pays homage to the former American Airline terminal which had featured artist Robert Sowers’ amazing stained glass facade designed in 1958-1959. The building was demolished in 2008.
